Photographs
selected photographic work.
Wherever I travel, I try to carry a camera. I still shoot on film when I can, often using an old Rolleiflex I bought in a junk shop in Bangkok. Looking down into its viewfinder feels less intrusive than holding a camera to my eye and allows me to keep talking with the people I photograph.
Some of my favourite images come from my time in South-East Asia, particularly Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. This selection also includes photographs from Peru, Saudi Arabia, a project documenting the farming community around Stirlingshire, and three images from Down and Out in London, a 35mm project I began in the early eighties while trying to get into art school. Inevitably, I also love a bit of found abstraction.
