I'm an award-winning director and producer with experience in film, television, documentary and music. My work has taken me around the world working for broadcasters and streamers including the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Netflix.
I began my career working in the art departments of British feature films including The Krays and Hellbound: Hellraiser II, before moving into directing music videos for artists including Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine. My work from that period is included in the BFI's definitive collection, 50 Years of British Music Videos.
Most recently, I produced an as-yet-unannounced feature-length true-crime documentary for Netflix, researching and developing the story and securing access and key archive.
Development has also been a substantial part of my career. I acquired the rights to Melvin Burgess’s novel Junk and helped develop the adaptation that went on to win a BAFTA. I also acquired rights to the Katie Morag children’s books and established a company to develop them for television. My experience extends to animation and VR, and I continue to develop original documentary and scripted projects through my own imprint, Oblique Pictures. These currently include a feature film based on Steven Sherrill’s novel The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break.
My first long-form documentary, A Short Film About Chilling, explored the emerging Balearic and acid-house scene in Ibiza. Since then, my work has ranged from intimate portraits of Hollywood legends Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas to series directing the landmark BBC history of British cinema, British Film Forever, and ambitious factual productions including Wildest Dreams, filmed across four African countries. More recently I've worked extensively in true crime, including directing Social Media Murders: Molly McLaren for ITV.
I've spent a significant part of my career in the edit - I used to cut my own work - music videos and commercials as well as for other directors. Latterly I've been employed as an edit producer cutting programmes ranging from an Emmy Award-winning episode of Gaycation for Vice to a dramatised account of the life of Jesus for the History Channel, as well as Vendetta: Truth, Lies and the Mafia for Netflix. I edit directed The Great British Sex Scandal: The Earl and the Escort for Channel 5 and worked across returning true-crime formats including Murder in Mind and Killers Caught on Camera.
I'm particularly interested in stories where individual lives open a window onto something larger — culture, politics, history, crime and the ways in which the world around us shapes who we become. Whatever the subject, I'm drawn to strong characters, unexpected stories and finding a distinctive visual way to tell them.
